Can you imagine putting all that work into sewing your quilt top , getting it quilted, adding binding only to then cut it all up? Neither did I until I decided to make a quilt coat.
I haven't been making clothes long but @quiltingmaggie , a lady in my Pattern writing academy peer group made a quilt coat pattern so that gave me the shove to give it a whirl.
Deciding which quilt to cut up was the most traumatic. What looks great on a bed doesn't necessarily lend itself to looking great on the high street. I had visions of Joseph and his technicolour dream coat at one stage! In the end a decent 2 colour quilt drew the short straw - wasn't even one of my own quilts.
UPDATE 2023 :
So one year after I started my quilt coat is FINISHED and I love it! Not sure why I put my Maggie jacket into 'time out' but maybe my sewing confidence has grown since then? Didn't like binding the edges as I suspected I wouldn't but it has to be done.
If you like my jacket then check out the pattern https://bit.ly/3rSlUMt
Would I make another one? Never say never!
