I have a love hate relationship with Halloween. As an English person we for sure did not celebrate this when I was a kid. As an Expat raising my, now 28 year old, child in the Czech Republic we did get invited to a few Halloween celebrations from American families but even so it just didn't hit the spot.
As a quilter though its a different story. I love seeing all the themed fabrics, I love seeing all the cute quilts. I love that the Americans love it so much and can almost feel the atmosphere but...
I have tried now for 3 years to get involved. I did a pattern test for a Halloween pumpkin quilt - hated it. I made a pumpkin wall hanging - hated it. Maybe its just the pumpkin side of it I hate?
Nope, for 2 years now have joined in on the Fat Quarter shop's mystery Halloween QAL. https://bit.ly/46FCPS4 Last year I made the witches hat and the broomstick blocks and guess what - I hated it. Sent it off in my next care package to my friend in Arizona.
Part of the issue is that we do not even get very many Halloween fabrics. I loved the new lines that had pink in them so was very excited to find some in our largest fabric store, Latky Mraz. Bought half a metre but what use is that if you have nothing to put with it? A random pillow and a sad pumpkin wall hanging does not make for a festive look!
Maybe this will be the year it catches me- just no bloody pumpkins please!
